Remnants of the Past-

Our bags are ready....all tied up with a pretty pink bow.....now all we need to do is fill them.  

I've gathered up a couple of my friends and we are heading off  for  a super fun time at Remnants of the past.

These bags are divine- Trish from Cottage by Design  was super, super, super...helpful.... did I mention that she was super?...well, she was! {because you see, I seem to do everything last minute. {smile}

I totally think Trish understands how I think.....just wouldn't be a girls day without something divine.  Thanks Trish!

 I think they are even big enough to bring home an antique mirror....  (more smiling}

A Few more little surprises await the girls.... like this and.....

Like these-

I used cupcake bags, tied with a string and a wooden fork for fun. Raspberry and chocolate moose. The cupcake bags have a little platform for the cupcake to sit on....Happy Day. {I am totally obsessed with thinkgarnish.com ......I would love to have a storage cabinet full of all their little touches....just sitting there waiting for a fun time to happen.}

Oh.... If you are going to the Show too...look for 3 ladies with the cutest bags ever..... tied with pink bows....that will be us.

Give Old Furniture new life with paint-

$60 Ottoman-

 
A Custom ottoman for $60 dollars....can't beat that.  A few weeks ago I went to a friends home to help her make an ottoman....fun & fairly easy.

I had a bunch of step by step instructions....but my computer crashed and I lost the step by step pictures. =(

But this is basically what we did-

 

• She found a piece of round plywood out in the barn that we cut down to size- {3/4 inch plywood.}
• drilled holes through the plywood for buttons.
• cut two inch foam for top
• stapled fabric to the plywood round {layers; plywood, foam, fabric}
• hand covered buttons with fabric
• pulled string through holes to attach button's.... secured the string to the bottom of the plywood using a metal washer and a dowel.
• attached hardware for legs
• pleated and then attached skirt to plywood with staples and hot glue
• Added decorative trim around center with hot glue.

On another note- I finally found a little black phone to add to this space at the cottage-

A little Sanding-

 

 

Remember this $10 chair?

  I've been working on it off and on for the last couple of days.

 

I've finished the cleaning, painting and sanding.

 

 The fabric is ready to put on the seat, just need the time to do it.....that will happen this weekend.

 

But, I wanted to show you the chair so far......and, I have to tell you, I love what "Sanding" can do to a chair.

I think most things are more interesting when they are a little ruff around the edges..... including people.  =)

 
I'm hoping to finish these little chairs today. {I love how they look in the kitchen}

After I had painted & sanded these two chairs.... I decided to go back to the thrift store and pick up the other two remaining chairs.  =)

One more thing, I could just kick myself- About a week ago I saw a pair of chairs at this same store, that I was thinking about buying $24 a piece that looked something like this, only they were caned on the back and sides.

 

 

 Yes, I was so stupid and didn't pick them up at that time.....came back a few days later and they were gone.  =(  ....  lesson learned.

One more thing....I found this adorable little chair last week......  its on its way to my home.... {happy Dance}  I have a happy little spot waiting for it in the cottage living room.  =) 

I was thinking a little sunshine & sand were needed in my cottage of sea colors. 

 

Sofa Table....from the Bone Yard-

Last week I pulled a few items from the Nut Company's "bone" yard.

I thought I would try my hand at making a "somewhat" industrial style sofa table.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
I thought these little guys were make a perfect base...I cleaned them up and spray painted them white.....I thought about spraying them silver...but thought they would look too cheap....I also thought about leaving them as they are just cleaned up....but I wasn't liking their color....so they got a coat of white spray paint.

I grab a few boards from our pallet stack....I picked out some boards that just happened to have almost the same teal color on their ends as what I painted the dinning room buffet.

 
The boards before I sanded them and dry brushed them with white paint.

I still have a few more touches to finish up the table.....here's a look at it in the meantime.

 
After I finish with a few more things I want to do to it...I will show you the whole "table".

Mirror Dresser- for $35

 

 

Remember these guys- They are now very good friends {I received two old dressers from Libby- this is not the one that I used. Couldn't find the before picture {my computer crashed last week, and I'm still trying to find everything...but the dresser looked just like this one in every-way, except the top drawers were different.}

 

What I did-

• Saved the mirror- which was cut into pieces to fit the dresser- $20
• Painted the dresser- Ralph Lauren- Regent Metallics- silver Base
• Purchased simple handles for $15
• Glued the mirror to the dresser using- Liquid Nails- Mirror adhesive ( in the silver and gold tube}
• Dresser- free from Libby

One more piece done.

Tips-  Save all your old mirrors, you never know when, or how you will use them.  I asked my glass guy how much it would have cost me if I didn't have my own mirror.  He said somewhere between  $80 and $150. More if you wanted the ends beveled.

So if you are doing a bathroom redo and it has a big piece of mirror in it...SAVE IT!  if you don't want it, I will take it off your hands.  =)

I have some fun ideas for the top of the dresser....I just put a few items on it for now....so it didn't look so bare.
