This is the little table I found at a garage sale for $5 a month ago ....couldn't pass that up, even if I didn't want it....someone could use it! (a happy meal is more money than that!)
I used some left over Annie Sloan chalk paint in Paris Grey that was used to paint the guest bathroom ...chalk paint goes a long ways. ( and really she looked fine in her original stain...but I wanted something a little bit lighter)
She makes a cute little side table- down the road I plan to add either mirror or white marble to the top...not sure which yet. (the table has a little raised lip....so it is just begging for something like that)
What do you think....marble, mirror, or glass....for the top?
Never pass up a $5 side table.
Happy Day
No sanding or priming....just went for it with the Chalk Paint.
Things are moving along with the framing.... starting to take shape! Happy Day
The view from the upstairs larger bedroom. (the parents room) The bright green area.... the golf course.
The retaining wall is also coming along....sweet Happy Day! We have been so worried that we would get a big storm and that hill would come down on our home.
Hoping by this weekend that the block will all be installed....it will still need to be filled with cement and back filled with dirt. Update- the block on this wall is now done...just waiting for cement and dirt back fill.
The front of the house. I know it is hard to determine where the roof line is going.
The pictures below may help a little.
6 dormers, the tower and a few interior framing items are still needing to be done and then the framers will be finished. The windows are being delivered this week and hoping that the roof is made weather tight. (smile)
This home has 5 separate roof structures. The living room has it own roof- the theater room, kitchen, upstairs back rooms and the tower- which is the stair case. To give you a better idea...it is like 5 mini houses that are glued together. (smile)
That is why it is still crazy inside-
Treasure hunting for Poppy Hill-
Here are a few items I have found on a couple treasure hunts-
(after I clean them up and paint them I will post a before and after)
Vintage $5 garage sale find.
Vintage table- from Brewers Barn sale.
The garage is filling up with little treasures. (smile)
This is want happens when you sell your home and all the furniture inside.
I have a little dilemma- Do I add the front missing leaf? (see it laying up against the box.) or refinish as is?
I'm thinking of painting the top a light chocolate and the bottom a vintage buff.
I just like the legs so much...hate to cover them up.
But then again if I put the other leaf in ....it would make a good nightstand in the upstairs bed room....where the leaf could be extended as needed for guest to use.....what to do, what to do?
or I could do something like this....
Look at this link for all the different ways to use a drop leaf table.....I have so many options...I love having options!
Tell me what would you do?
Warehouse shopping-
A good friend told us about a Restoration Hardware warehouse sale...where everything was marked down 50-85% ...sweet happy day. We found a few things to bring home!
Random thought...that just popped into my head....You know the HGTV dream home....and how the designer buy all the furniture and decorations for the whole house....crazy fun....but oh my tons of work...finding just the right pieces....I feel a little like that...well not just like that...
I don't have their budget
and I'm spending my own money....so ....no playing around. (smile)
What would you do if someone bought your home and all the furniture and decorations....would you be happy or crazy stressed?
We have a sofa, bed, mirror and table for the house now.....I plan to kind of stop there until we move in...I want to get a feel for the space before I get more big items. Unless.... I come across something cute at a vintage sale. (smile)
Last week before I took the girls to see Mary Poppins- Carlee and I stopped in to check out a new shop in Turlock- they were having their grand opening.
And just like that...SWEET HAPPY DAY! I found some doors....
they were just standing there smiling at me...
saying " We would make an awesome front entry way door"
so...I said...Okay!
They are Vintage Bank Doors from San Francisco!
They weight a ton!
They are 8 feet tall 35 inches wide and HEAVY- the glass is over an inch thick!
It took- Denver, Sam and Dan to move them.
(which by the way I asked all three of them to remember to take a picture of them once they were out and free...yep, they forgot.)
They are now sitting at a door fabrication shop-
They will be building a frame for these ladies, turning them into a french style door!
We also plan to add a little wrought iron to the front.....I've been sketching ... I think I have a winner!
It was wonderful to find these doors....saving us tons of money....and still ending up with a very unique and original door.....and vintage thrown in for fun!
This cute little vintage coffee table was given to me by a friend in town some time ago, just getting around to making it over. Love the cute little legs and the glass removable top.
Cleaned it up- and painted a primer on it.
Then came the fun part.
Yes, I painted it yellow.
I left the little metal toes just as they were.
While the paint was drying, I took some time to do laundry, work in the garden....and download some images from The Graphics fairy. An awesome place for free images.
-The images were for the top of the table-
....and here she is all finished.
Thanks a ton Doris- I think she is a sweet little Yellow lady.
Love finding treasures...even better when they come knocking on my door.
I picked up a couple really sweet Vintage Wooden crates from The Vintage Market the other day. I was originally looking for wire baskets ....but, these caught my eye and will be perfect for what I intend to do with them.
I'm gifting them to a couple of friends- I call them "Christmas Baking Gift Containers." {wish I could think of a clever name for them- any ideas?}
I plan to fill them will all things needed to wrap baked goods in for gifting. {A gift that's for gifting =)
Paper baking containers for gifts of different shapes and sizes- loaf, bunt, cupcakes and cookies.
Cupcake flags
Ribbon
Blue, red and green twine
Frosting spatula
Sprinkles
cupcake design tattoos
White paper bags
Cellophane bags
Die cut cupcake holders
Gift tags
I put all the items in the containers- tied with some burlap and ribbon then added a little greenery from my yard.
All ready to give- I love using Vintage containers to put gifts in- like wooden crates, wire locker baskets, enamel bowls, vintage lunch tins, old metal tool containers....etc.
Loved the patina on the end of this Vintage container- Sweet.
I prepared this post several days ago....but, post delayed it {did you know on typepad you can post delay a year if you want?} to show up today- I didn't want Sandi & Ruth to see it before they received them.
Sandi, Ruth, Cindy and I served in the Stake YW many years ago- since then we get together once a year for a little reunion. {sorry, that Cindy couldn't make it this year.=(
This year we are doing breakfast, lunch & a Christmas House tour- and of course our annual Christmas gift exchange. {Ruth planned this years event.....I planned last years...see it here.}
One .50 cent enamel bread pan-{from my Saturday Treasure hunt.}
Put a couple inches of rock on the bottom of the pan, add succulent potting mix. Then fill with succulents of your choice. Ending with moss to cover the dirt. Water lightly. {won't need to be watered next for a month.}
It didn't take much time to change this mirror....just a little paint and about 10 minutes.
Can you spot a couple of the treasures I found Saturday?
I painted the mirror white....and just cleaned up the wooden shoe.I guess it probably would of been just fine left as it was.....I just wanted it to feel a little bit fresher.
So, It went from Brass to this-
Found the mirror and wooded shoe for under $5.....I love secret little places that not many know about yet. {my lips are sealed =)
One of my goals when we bought this little cottage was to accessorized it with left overs, do overs and lost treasures. {Just for fun} So far everything in the cottage has entered that way {except the sofa and mattress.....this girl has issues about that.....will only use an old sofa if it is leather, came from family or it has a good frame and can be upholstered....just saying there are some things you just can't clean enough for my taste.}
I think spaces have more character and are more interesting when you have had to hunt them down. The whole kitchen sitting area where the starburst mirror ended up....came in under $50 including the chairs.
Next project, the blue and green bottles....I will have that up later this week.
Yesterday I had plans of trimming roses etc up at CV.....but that got foiled when I had to run errands for the Nut Company- we had a part FedEX to us and I went to pick it up at the airport.
So because it was too late to run up to CV- I decided to grab Heidi and the kids and go on a little treasure hunt.
Our treasure-
One small table- Heidi's
10 blue and green vintage bottles- one with a glass/cork stopper
one vintage wooden shoe form
a vintage convex starburst mirror ...with mercy showing through
one vintage enamel bread pan...I have a fabulous idea how to use it....sharing next week.
Total $25
These bottles are soaking in my secret solution..... I plan to share what I will be doing with them next week.
My Blog began in 2005- I write about "whatever" I am doing- about my husband (Danny) and our 5 grown children and grandchildren.
