(Our gift to each other army boots "bunny boots" for snowshoeing.}
As things would turn out....Christmas Morning this year was just the two of us. We made the best of it and had a sweet time...(it had been over 35 years since that happened....well, for that matter this was really the first time...just the two of us.}
Christmas eve was spent with Jessica and Mason.....we baked and had dinner together....fun.
Back to Christmas morning...we slept in....that's always nice.
Then we opened gifts....thanks Danny for the Christmas coat and army boots.
It was a different kind of Christmas morning...but it was good.
Danny and I share the same birthday month...our birthdays are actually just a couple days apart. ....we have a tradition of celebrating our birthdays on one date.
This year we made a weekend of it.
We headed south a bit to enjoy the cooler breezes by the beach.
I had been planning all year to attend the Farm Chick show in Seattle.....but when Mason and Jessica set their wedding date .... I thought it might be cutting things too close.
Danny came up with the idea to attend Remnants- sweet =)
{next year do or die! Lets plan a girls trip, are you in? The Farm Chick show 2014}
Mason in the back "talking/text" Jessica...just 6 more days!
Heidi...bless her heart.... helped to make the day special for me.
Dinner and cake (Sam had made the cake the night before... all ready for Sunday...but then got called to a fire.}
I had an awesome birthday weekend- Thanks to everyone who stopped by or left Happy Birthday messages. You made me feel special!
Happy Day
Side note-
The only thing that seemed so "different" "sad" lonely" about this birthday was....it was the first birthday since I was born....that I didn't have a hug or call from Mom or Dad.
Okay...just a warning....you may see a lot of Beach pictures.
These pictures were taken at the end of the road....as far North as you can drive, past Princeville.
Close to wet caves and Ke'e Beach.
The beach below our villa where we were staying. The water was only about two feet deep clear out to the deep blue, plus it had awesome trees for shade.
Looking down from our resort.
Best: Spouting Horn- waves force air out of an opening in a lava tube, producing strange sounds while spray is forced out of another opening close by. Lawa'i Bay.
We were sitting at Bubba's hambuger place ( in Hanalei, South Pacific was filmed there} .....when a women across the street...yells what I think is my name....she is looking right at me waving, pointing, waving and pointing all the time saying Teresa.....so, I wave back. (because there was no one behind me so I thought Ok sure, don't want her to feel bad. =} Then she walks over to me and says...
"Hi, you don't know me but my name is Rachael and I follow your blog!"
Oh my goodness small world. We had a short visit and then she left with her family....and I could kick myself....I didn't get a picture! I think it just took me by surprise.
Fun world.
Best: Treat shaved ice with ice-cream on the bottom and sweet milk on the top. We liked the one next to the food land store in Princeville the best.
( parts of Jurassic Park and Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed in this garden.)
Not sure how I got the bended light on the photo....kind of cool.
Best: Rainbow - it does rain a lot in Kauai, especially where we stayed in Princeville.
Best: Hot Dog - Puka Dog Hawaiian style hot dog...they take warm bread make a center in it add a polish sausage, sweet mustard and your choice of relish- I choose the mango relish...I have to say I liked it....and I'm not a big Hot dog fan. We mainly went there because Kent told us too. =)
Best:Rooster- if there can be such a thing! We actually hated disliked the Roosters. There were a few that like to sit under our window and start crowing around 4:30 am....Thank you very much! (thanks to the lady that thought they were cute and gave them treats....guess where they liked to hang out.} By the way the Roosters and chickens are everywhere on the island...just so you know. =)
Best: Dinner and Sunset- St. Regis Princeville- The Regis has ties with The Westin so we visited them once in a while too. Easy to get to...right next to our Villa.
Best: Free concert Madison- Singer, songwriter, Age 14 we enjoyed her concert. Happened on it right next to our resort.
This is what we were up to 35 years ago April 1978....and....
this is us April 2013.....going down King Kong 1200 foot zip line. We did let go of each others hands later and raced down the rest of the way...Danny won.
I have tons to share....but for now I need to go unpack .....be back soon with the rest of the story.
He was twenty one when he took my trembling hand across the Holy alter at the Manti Temple, I was still a girl. A Girl who hid shy with low self esteem and was swallowed down with fear of not being good enough. He changed all that....I love him.
When I tell people we have been married for 35 years they can't believe it...not sure why....seems like yesterday to me....but then again, a life time ago when we started our journey.
Today I would like to share 35 habits we practice and enjoy that I believe keeps us holding hands and looking for each others eyes in the crowd.... just to pass a look that says....I see you.

Kept by our bedside...journals of gratitude to each other.
Kent, Denver, dad, and Sam taking a break after playing too hard. We missed Mason .
Our first nights lodging. A tiny bunkhouse that sleeps 10 people. believe it or not.
Our guides personal cabin was often attacked by bears. He put nails around the windows to stop them from attempting entry through windows.
Trust me Denver, I know. After all, I am the eldest.
Lunch at the Yetna lodge.
Same lodge. These lodges are scattered everywhere throughout the bush. Only accessible by snowmobile or plane.
Heated changing room at beginning of 400 mile trek. (heat was imperative in minus 18 degree weather.
Chandelier made from paper clips. You have to make do with what you have when everything you have is brought to by snowmobile at a cost of 50 cents per pound.
The majority of the trip was traveled on frozen rivers and lakes. Once in a while the ice would give in and the river would be exposed.
Alicia. A newlywed bride from Australia spending her honeymoon with her groom and 10 other men.
900 lb moose that became dinner that night.
Our trek pretty much followed the Iditarod (Dog sled race of 1000 miles) trail. This is 1 check point where mushers would come in and bed down there dogs on straw as seen in picture.
Another plane, load of suppies. Landed on frozen river.
Aviation fuel on skis so they could take fuel to planes on the river
Sofa and chair on sled. Not sure why. Might have something to do with rednecks.
Remote US Post Office. Mail is delivered by plane twice a week.
Just some random shed.
Hurry, take the picture. The sun is burning my eyes.
Things are coming right along over at Flourish. Just a few more weeks and we will be open. March 14th is the Grand opening....Would love to see you there.
Plus- talking about Chalkboards....you can now sign up for the first class, which is going to be a Chalkboard Art workshop. It is going to be a blast....come join us!
"How do you feel about getting away for a day just to hold hands and cuddle?" Heart melting!
He made plans for us to stay at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento...not too far away, but far enough to do nothing but talk, hold hands, and dream.
Visited Old Sacramento and when to a Home Show.
It was a cold foggy day...which, was perfect for holding hands.
He also took me to some of my favorite shops.{pottery-barn, Restoration Hardware, west elm....well, you know, the fun places.}
We took long a lunch and dinner. {No rushing to get somewhere else, divine.} We also slept in until 10:30am.... I think I was 17 the last time I did that.
We were also amused by all the young kid {like thousands of them} staying in our area for the Sac. Anime convention. Very amusing.....pretty much all in costume.
{I had to text Kent and ask him what Anime stood for...now I feel a little bit cooler, I attended an anime convention. =}
My Blog began in 2005- I write about "whatever" I am doing- about my husband (Danny) and our 5 grown children and grandchildren. I write about the things I love...from creating a new room to playing with my grand-kids...I share my blessings and my testimony about my Mormon Faith.{The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints} I love finding ways to be happy and enjoy the blessings I've been given....come what may.....Happy Day
