The Priests and Laurels in our Stake put together a Talent show for the seniors at the Turlock Covenant Village . ( Priest and Laurels are between the age of 16-18)
I just have to say how sweet it was for me to watch these Young Men and Women.... all the time thinking...Life can be so full of challenges for our beloved senior Saints with snowy crowns. =)
Thinking of the dear "seniors" in my life. You have made life so rich and meaningful for me....and I'm so missing them.
“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction.” (James 1:27.)
Brother and Sister...courage together.
(I wasn't able to capture all the talent and compassion ...they touched my heart)
In my heart I pray that we may be filled with pure love of Christ toward our beloved senior Saints. I believe if the Savior were here He would spend much time with them. May we follow in his footsteps.
This hutch was in my Mother and Fathers home and before that it was in my Grandparents home. I love to fill a room with treasures, whether that be vintage or Quirky.
I believe that opposites attract- more times than not when a room feels like it is missing something....I know it's because I need to add something "opposite"
Like if my room seems to "matchy" "matchy"... I add something totally different....or if it feels just "came from a box everything is perfect" I add something old, quirky or vintage.
The Quirky
Anthropologie is one of my favorite stores....not that I buy their clothes or dishes that often. (once in awhile...but what I can't get enough of are the displays.) I love their window displays, I love how they take everyday items and use them in unique ways. I so believe its not about how expensive the item is...its about displaying an item that you love in quirky, fun ways.
The Vintage
Dads chair...I bought that live boxwood wreath last year at Trader Joe's...can't believe it is still green.
The quirky, vintage & new all together
War ration book framed
vintage books
table pottery-barn
quirky art
vintage art
I like everything just a little bit off...a little quirky....I like to decorate with everyday treasure.
(I do try to follow a few decorating rules...just to keep everything from going too crazy. =)
Pages riped from my Mothers vintage garden book...become framed art in my home.
I like to collect....This Sea Shell mirror is something I made....with the help of a glue gun.
A few quirky vintage mirrors mixed with a few new one....can you tell which ones are vintage?
A vintage buffet I found at a thrift store....I painted it Teal of course.
Different homes and different families call for different ways of decorating. I decorate the way that works for my family. I try to find things that make me happy when I look at them. It may not be what you like or even close to something you may try....and that's the beauty of OUR HOMES....we get to do what works for us.
I usually don't worry if anyone out there loves how I decorate...(I do worry about how clean it is... I'm so "A" type) I guess what I'm trying to say is....we can all make our homes a fun, happy pretty place....just incorporate your favorite color, mothers dishes, quirky "starfish" or whatever simple pleasures that you like....no matter what anyone else thinks.
I just what to create a home that represents who we are as a family....I'm okay with imperfection in my home.
My grandmothers music box....my Mother had it, now I have it....someday it will be Shannon's then Anna's.
Home is about Family History.
Happy Day
(the music box plays The Anniversary song.)
Planning an awesome giveaway....on Monday....celebrating my Blog Anniversary. Stop by =)
We have a new Robot at the Nut house (we call our Nut processing Plant...the Nut house. =) she is getting a lot of attention lately!
Sam even went to "Robot" school back East this summer to learn how to keep her up and running.
She is going to be a hugh help...but more on that later.
I stopped in at the Nut house today to see what the guys were up to... each year they take apart the equipment clean it and then put it back together....a BIG project!
Today...still working on putting things back together....
They also do a lot of building and fabricating to get things to work just right.
Everything is starting to come together! Which means.....Nut Season is just around the corner....Planning to start in September.
Some may think that our work ends when Nut Season is over...but really...it never ends....just slows down a tiny bit. (love seeing these men work together.)
Creating a creative life for myself and those I love.
It's not hard to upload a photo, or write a hundred words on something you really love and think about everyday.
I am by no means a great writer... (how awesome would that be if I had that talent)....but what I do have is a desire to keep a "record/journal" of my family, what I believe ..... and hopefully add a little creativity and happy thoughts to the world in the process.
This blog is my happy place- my blog is not my best friend- I try not to use this blog to vent about my problems and small annoyances in my everyday life...Danny gets to hear about that....because he is my best friend.....and I do have a few girlfriends that might get an earful from time to time...sorry!
I may have gone "there" a couple times "here"....sorry for that. If I go "there" it is usually for a good reason and I may go "there" again for something really important ... and sorry if.........
Holy Menopause slips out once in awhile.....I have to contain myself from hot flashes that make me want to strip in public. Oh Joy!
So, if you are thinking my life is all sunshine and happy days....you would be mostly right but not completely right.
So, thank you for coming along with me on this journey and putting up with me... I know my pictures are not the best and my writing...well...is just me telling my story.
I am who I am-
"Be yourself; everyone else is taken." Oscar Wide
and now you know why I blog-
Happy Day.
Note- I have a "Blog Anniversary" coming up soon...I think I may need to do something really fun....I'm Thinking, I'm thinking...stay in touch.
I haven't shared a craft for some time...so, today I thought I would share a super easy fun little handout we did.
These were given to the ladies we visited at Ward Conference. (I have the calling as the Stake Young Women's Secretary)
Ward Conference
The stake presidency schedules and directs a ward conference once a year in each ward. Members of the stake presidency, high council, and stake auxiliaries take part in ward conference sessions as the stake president directs. The purposes of ward conference are to strengthen faith and testimony, provide gospel instruction, conduct business, and evaluate activity.
just cut a triangle shape- with right sides together stitch, then turn out and sew top...onto double wide hem tape. If you don't have a sewing machine...I think hot glue would work. =)
My Blog began in 2005- I write about "whatever" I am doing- about my husband (Danny) and our 5 grown children and grandchildren. I write about the things I love...from creating a new room to playing with my grand-kids...I share my blessings and my testimony about my Mormon Faith.{The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints} I love finding ways to be happy and enjoy the blessings I've been given....come what may.....Happy Day
