Nut Season 2010

 

 

 

 Nut season is in full swing......the nuts are coming in and life is running at a fast pace.

This year will be new and different-

Because.......

Sam will be working with us this year.

Dad and son working together.....something we thought might never happen.  It's wonderful having Sam here.   He has been a big help.....especially with this.....the new laboratory   Sam's good with all the "techie" stuff that needs to happen around here.

I'm trying to decide which wallpaper to use...{I know, I said I would never use wallpaper again....bad 80's memories}  but there are so many new and improved papers out there now.

There's not much to wallpaper- but I'm looking for a modern flair to this vintage bath.

Blessing week-

We took Audrey shopping this week to find a precious little white blessing dress.

We found the perfect little dress at Strasburg Children 

Fun little day shopping and even Carlee and Preston were able to find a little fun.

Preston- "How come it doesn't go up to the sky?"

I also spent some time this week....helping Danny get his office ready, more painting at the cottage and a little "sea shell" project.

This is a mirror that I've had for some time...it was originally black...then I painted it white....here is what it looks like now.

Yes, I glued hundreds of sea shells to it....love how it turned out....the mirror seems a little lonely waiting for the "teal" buffet to go under it.....soon, I hope.  =)

Kitchen- part one after-

This is the kitchen before- It's hard to tell in this picture but the cabinets were a pale shade of green...they look almost cream...

Here's where we are now.....I'm hoping to show you the "Whole" kitchen soon....still a few little things to do

• Painted the cabinets Swiss coffee
• new tile- white and smoke from Dale tile.
• new knobs
• new marble counter top

I liked having open shelving so much at the Hamlet that I decided to open up a few here too.  It makes life easy for Danny.

While I was at Shannon's we took a little antique shopping day....I was lucky enough to find some more teal colored jars along with a old slate school house chalk board with a red frame...score!

Grandchildren & more

I'm back from visiting Shannon, what fun.  There is never enough time to do all that I want.  I did manage to do a few fun things...

WE-

• watched soccer games and practices
• first day of school
• helped Shannon makeover her bathroom
• ice-cream
• special lunch
• hugs
• Church
• piano in the morning
• reading at night
• hugs

Working on Shannon's bathroom- this is the before. {At this point she had painted the walls, and together we installed one of the new light fixture, the one on the left.}

We painted the cabinets white.....when I left they were still drying. {Portland =)

One of the things she wanted to do was to frame in the big mirror.....and as it so happened while I was there Moen contacted me to see if I would be interested in reviewing some of their  new bathroom  items....I said sure!...I love free stuff.

Anyway....one of the items they want me to review would be prefect in Shannon's bathroom....so these are now being shipped to Shannon.

I had a wonderful time, they made me feel loved and wanted...always hate to leave....it seems I'm always saying good-bye.....hate that.

Came home and went right to work...

One of my crazy ideas for the Cottage living-room {seeing as we are free spirits...ie....empty Nester's} I thought I would try something a little unconventional for the living room....

Two lounge chaises to watch TV-  This is just the first step...more to come

I have a few more touches to add.....and I still need to do the other side of the room.

For a more cozy evening the ottoman can be pushed back and the lounges can be pushed together for a little hand holding.... =)

Roadtrip-

Just finished part one of a road trip with a Dear friend.  We both came to visit our grand-babies and daughters.{Cheryl with her new grand-baby & daughters}  Our kids grew up with each other and now they live with in an hour of each other.

It was wonderful to have company on the trip-

Now off to two soccer games-

Cottage Laundry-room makeover-

The laundry- room is finished.....well almost. I still need to add more art. {going to have Shannon's children help me with that this weekend} But other than a few more little things,  the room is finished.

Here is the after-

A little list of what I did-

 

• Painted
• tiled
• removed some cabinet doors
• added new curtains.

I removed two of the cabinet doors- painted the cabinets Ultra white from Dutch Boy.  Added the baskets from Michael's. Put bead-board on the back of apron closet. I also added a square of pebble tile to the bottom of that closet. The hooks were original to the house. The word one, two, three- Shannon made for me. =)

The story behind the making of the curtains-

I had a drop cloth or an old shower curtain that I wanted to turn into curtains for this room....the drop cloth won.

I just hemmed it top and bottom- used a spring tension rod to hang it.  Used some old rope I had on hand to add some character along with the banners left over from the spring event.

 

I was so happy how the cabinet area turned up-

I was lucky enough to find the baskets at Michael's for 50% off....Happy Day.

Fun little chair- art work from Carlee and Preston- a basket, a place to drop things as you come in.

I love how the room turned out----using a lot of what I had----the curtains were free style...just shopped my home.  The art couldn't be any better {when Carlee saw her art hanging on the wall her comment was..."Oh, I'm like a artist."  I plan to have Shannon and Kent's children add to it....the theme this year "draw a picture of the beach."

A week with Audrey-

This has been a week all about Audrey.....and of course Carlee and Preston. I had the joy of being a little helper this week. {Not sure if I was much help...but I had fun}

•  The Wonder Pets song is still in my head..."this is serious."
• Preston eating goat food....we spent some time at the zoo.
• Blowing noses- two sick children....so no swimming this week...sad.
• Grammer can we go for a walk?
• Grammer can I play with Emma?
• Grammer I'm I dirty {Carlee asking that several times a day...I let them shower in my "big" shower....so it was like a little party they looked forward to. =)
• Grammer blow my nose.
• Grammer I love you 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 11,12,13,14,15, 16,17,18,19,20, 60, 100!

Just trying on different handbands....still a little too big for her tiny head....but something to look forward to.

She is an adorable little girl and it was wonderful for me to be part of her first week of life.
