Done in a Day- Cottage bathroom.

Thanks to "used" accessories from the "Hamlet" this  look was pulled together, I laid everything I thought would look good together on the floor in the bedroom...then just picked which items I thought would work.

• New- chair from Pier1, light fixture and curtains from Ikea {the chair was their showroom model so I got it at a discount price.}
• Old-  everything else....baskets, frames, rugs, mirror....painted white.... well all the accessories.

How it was pulled together-

This chair was my inspiration- 

• The creamy white background is the color {Swiss Coffee} that I used on the walls-
• Continuing with the theme-the chair made me think "botanical".....so

Using an old book that I had....I pulled  some pictures from it to frame and use in the room. I picked mostly all green with a touch of deep red...again pulling from a color in the chair.

The framed botanical go all the way around the room at the same height. {I haven't finished the "toilet" side of the room yet, I needed three more frame, {guess I have to buy them =)....pictures on that later

• Open up spaces- I love opened cabinets....so I took off the lower cabinet doors and added dark black baskets for hidden storage..

Talk about open spaces-

When we took down the old mirror....this is what we found.   You never know what you will find in this old house. {Ruth came to help =)

 

• The mirror came from the "hamlet".... it was the one hanging over the toilet area...painted it white, now this is it's new home.
• The light fixture came from Lowe's....it is hard to tell what it looks like with the light on....the first picture of the makeover you can see it a little better.  Basically it's silver with square glass vases.

Basically in a day it went from this.....to this

{curtains from Ikea...white Swiss dot.  They had tab tops...I didn't really care for the tab top so I had Ruth just fold them over and sew them to the top hem....added bonus... by doing that when we put them on the rod....it gave a nice little  look to the tops of the curtains....thanks Ruth.}

To this-

We started around 9:30am and finished by noon.  I had painted the day before...but it only took 3 hours. In less than 8 hours.... my Green Cottage bath....gets a New Look-

This little beauty is built into the wall...it's a old toothbrush holder. 

With a stainless steal cup.

It flips closed, and is hidden in the wall.

 

 

 

 

 

 

When trying to find a little table to put next to this chair...I was finally able to use this little stool....I think it came from an old ice-cream place {that's what I like to think anyways. =)

Church pie and Kids-

How much do you weigh?   {don't answer that.....what I really mean...is how heavy is your weight?}

• cleaning
• callings
• work
• kids
• weeds
• painting
• aches
• sickness
• problems

etc. etc. etc......

I believe there is more "Happy" more "pretty" if we can just look a little pass the "heavy.". Like my daughter says- "Find Joy in the Journey."

Like church pie-

Sunday after Church  we found all the primary children gathered around a big "blackberry" bush that was growing wild....but they were enjoying the fruit.

Sam the great cook that he is....picked a bowl full and make the best blackberry pie I've ever had.....we called it Church Pie.....this lifted my weight. =)

Two little grandchildren who find joy in all the little things...lizards, bubbles, Emma, and candy.  They lift my weight.

A daughter that comes to my aid time after time....this lifted my weight.

The beautiful out-weighs the heavy.

This week-

This week we:

• dug up every tree in the yard {either dead or out of control}
• finished painting the kitchen, with the help of Sandi.

 

• ordered the Marble for the kitchen counter-tops
• pressured washed the whole house
• finished painting the laundry room {using Dutch boy Paints.... For story read here.}

 

 

 

 

 

 

Before

After- Colors-Hawaiian sky and ultra white- {just a little tease} I really liked how it turned out....but the big test was...did Danny like it?  He walked in the room ....his words.... "wow, I really like it....it makes me want to just go out there and sit there for awhile."

We need to get the floor down and then I will dress the room...baskets, star fish, rugs, art, stainless steal shelf, glass jars, new light.

Cottage- Green Bath-

 

• Okay, sweet readers....calling on you for a little help.
• I have some ideas for this space.... (keeping all the tile...just too sweet to get rid of =)
• What would you do?
• If I use your idea....I will send you a sweet little something in the mail....not sure what it is...but it will be sweet =)
• Don't be shy, we are all friends here, right?   Plus I know you guys have fabulous design "skills"  so share.....What would you do?

The room is no where near finished just sharing where we are....still need to replace the fan...{hd big fan...fan =)

Crown molding still to go up....and window coverings...right now I have black trash bags covering them for privacy.

Cottage- done with the floors-

Hip-Hip hooray!  45,000 square feet is what it adds up to if you calculate how many times I when over these floors.

They really did turn out great....so I guess it was worth all the work.  I can now put that on my list of things never to do myself again.  =)

Now, we are afraid to walk on it....today, I'm putting down paper everywhere....everything is getting painted. Just finished the master-bed room which looked like this...

This room is downstairs, {this picture was taken when it was still wet, the floors won't be so shiny after they dry.}.....I didn't think to take a picture of the room upstairs...have to wait until everything is dry. 
 Two more coats to go.

 

Cottage- Sanding/screening

The work has begun-

We have been reading up on old hardwood floors- and have decided that "screening" would be the best way to redo these floors and get the look that we want. {still keeping the 90 year old charm but cleaning them up a little to add some shine and bring out the old charm.}

This is how they started out.   We rented a vibrating sander- from Home depot- used a 2 inch pad and started with 80 grit sand paper and ended with 150 grit screening material....looks like material you would use on a window screen. {rented everything from Home Depot.}

The room facing the hall has been sanded....is waiting for me to vacuum and dust it off. {each room was sanded twice with 80...then 120 grit and ended with 150 grit screening material....we also vacuum between each sanding.} Can you say, Holy cow, 8 times going over the same floor!

Next step---dusting cleaning and then added 3 coats of polythene.

That will be this weeks project.

I will make sure to share the before and after as soon as we get it done.

 

 

 

 

 

Preston's Birthday-

Preston turned three on July 8th-  here's a little look at our day.

Started the day at Dennis the Menace park.

Then lunch at Bubba Gump.  

Where they sang Happy Birthday to a very shy little boy....but he loved the treat they gave him. {see heidi's site}

 

 

Then we headed to the beach for a little sea side fun-

Preston loved the water....had to keep him from going in too deep. Carlee found a "Sea Star" {in her words}

and ran around hunting for "she" shell and would exclaim at the top of her voice....I found a "she" shell!

My Life in a Nut Shell-

{no pun intended.} 

Once or twice a year I like to just list a few things that I'm doing or  what my life is like. { I use this blog as a journal of sorts, so I thought I might add a few Particulars, so maybe someday people can laugh at it or whatever.} Plus, I think it may be important to let my lineage know I did more than decorate, paint and clean. =)

My Life in a Nut Shell-

Who I am-

I love to spend time and work with Danny.  I adorable my grandchildren and count the days when I get to see them again.  My children are a gift and a blessing in my life.

Working the garden, painting, decorating is just something I do....it's not who I am.

What I do to serve at Church-

• I'm serving in the Stake Primary Presidencies as a counselor.
• I Visit Teach and correspond each month through the mail with 61 others in our Branch.
• I manage our Relief Society blog- Small and Simple Things-
• I serve in the Temple as a ordinance worker- from 2-11pm once a week. {travel time included.}

What I do just about everyday-

• spend about 20-40 minutes on my total gym....just so I can move.  If I don't do that....my Rheumatoid Arthritis gets the most of me.
• pray
• drive
• read
• text [do you think my great-grandchildren will know what that is?}
• phone
• kiss {yes, I kiss papa everyday}
• eat a bowl of cereal....Special K
• blow dry my hair....I have crazy hair.
• check my email
• Ask, What do you feel like for dinner tonight? =)

I'm sure there are others things I do just about everyday.....saving them for another time.

What I'm working on right now in my life-

• I work on my blog
• I'm a editor for Blissfully domestic "Home"
• We just purchased a 1920's home....that we are fixing up.
• My garden in CV
• Just finished posting at Small and simple things.
• Babysitting Carlee and Preston....{Preston's been sleeping a while better go check on him}
• package to Mason
• balancing everything.....I think I have more irons in the fire now... more then when I was a young Mother. What's up with that?
• callings
• Dad {my Father has stage 5 cancer and is bravely facing each day}
• Helping Dan when he needs me at the Nut House.

Well there you have it...My Life in a Nut shell-

{talking about Nuts....I think just about every week night for the past 2-3 weeks I have been at Home Depot or Lowes with Danny picking things up for the Nut House.} It's all good...gives us lots of time in the truck to talk.
