Shannon and family came for a visit and because our home is still not ready to live in we spent most of the time at the cabin. The rest of the time Sam and Heidi let us use their home while they were gone on a family vacation. (thanks Sam and Heidi!)
One of our favorite things to do...float in this little lake. No motor boats are allowed just wind or human powered boats. Grab a floaty, paddle board or canoe and you are good to go.
Shannon and family also helped us chop and stack more wood...we are finally finished cutting up the fallen tree. (looks like we have about a 2 year supply because of that tree)
Each of the kids (Payton in picture) took turns chopping wood... Scott chopped a good portion of it too!.
Anna spent a good portion of her time at the cabin...creating! Which I just love to see happen. After they had chopped up all the wood...Anna rescued all the bark that had split off the logs...for a fairy house, which now lays hidden in the cabin forest!
Anna and I also spent some time picking wild sweet peas from the front of the cabin. So far this year we have enjoyed the daffodils, lupines and now sweet peas.
After we picked a few flowers and I taught her the song "Oh sweet peas won't you dance with Me" (smile) she gathered up some supplies and put this little crown and bouquet together all on her own...sweet creative little girl!
We thought we would try something new this time while the kids were here so, we decided to try out this hike down to a very unique geological formation... called Natural Bridge. (about a half hour from our cabin)
Hike is about a mile. Not bad going down. A bit rocky... the climb back out was harder, but not too bad, uphill the whole way out. The little creek and the cave are so cool. You MUST swim through it and get to the other side. It's shallow and rocky at first, but then it gets deep use a float to get to the other side...about a quarter mile float. It's gorgeous on the other side with natural water "tubs" and incredible rock formations. It's the kind of natural beauty people fly out to Hawaii to see.
The Water is a cold!
Getting There: Highway 4 to Parrots Ferry Road. Go about 4 miles and park at the marked trail head.
This majestic spot features a large creek that flows through massive caves.
Tips if you want to go-
- water shoes a must.
- Hiking can be tough if done around noon, hot and more people will be there once you arrive...go early!
- Take some kind of float...the middle of the cave is amazing. I don't think I would of swam it ....so cold!!!
I didn't take as many pictures as I would of liked...worried about getting my phone wet...Shannon was smart and had a water proof case for her phone and she got some amazing pictures.
Tips number 4....water proof phone case.
Lots of fun.
Payton and Anna decided they wanted to sleep in the bunkie (it is about 50 feet from the cabin and on the rustic side) but they did it and had fun. Anna even made a poster that you could sign if you were brave enough to sleep in the bunkie. (smile)
Friday we spent the day at Alpine Lake...around 25 miles from the cabin. We love this lake...so much fun. They water was much higher than last year when we were here....the little beach we usually sit at was under water....but that's a good thing.
That is his lunch on a stick (smile) he is headed over to the island to explore.
We rented a little boat so the kids could go from island to island.
This lake and area is full of fun things to do...hike, camp, play and or just sit on a rock with an amazing view and have a picnic lunch.
Always a wonderful time when the kids join us at the cabin. We headed back home (well, Sam and Heidi's Home for the 4th.)
Happy Day.
I sure love seeing the get together at your cabin. And Love seeing your children's family growing up and all the changes. "The circle of life" is a amazing..
Hugs
