We have been wanting to hike Hite cove for about 8 years now....and what do we do?....decide to hike it around 5pm....we kind of roll that way.
After Sandi and Steve unload their truck {stuff for the Spring Event} we headed out for our hike.
We wanted to see what the wildflowers were up to....of course they were a little shy and closing up for the day....but still pretty.
Here's a little look at our hike.
Hazards: The first mile and a half of the trail winds along the hillside about a hundred feet above the river.( about what we hiked, before we headed back...didn't want to walk the trail in the dark) There are spots, however, where the drop off is sheer enough that a fall could kill you. =)
Pretty easy hike....we did it with-
My recovering knee
Sandi's broken toe
We are tuff that way...we come from Pioneer stock. =)
Crossed over Creeks, Streams and Bubbling Brooks... =)
Awesome Steve. =)
We stopped here and had dinner- peanut butter sandwiches, Nutri Grain bars and water {remember we are still rolling last minute style.}
We want to go back and hike the whole trail....around 4 miles in.....and do it during the day light hours when the poppies are opened. =)
Happy Day
Note to self-
You'll find lots of poison oak here, few lots of mosquitoes....for our next hike remember to take mosquito repellent and anti bacterial wipes (porta potty your only option....if you are a girl that is}
Dan, Teresa and Sandi in this shot....can you find us?
Today we decided to celebrate Sandi's birthday a little early and go see Mamma Mia. {sweet little gift from Sandi...so cute.}
Fun day enjoying the music of AbBA- fun light hearted dance to play. My favorite songs were- "The winner Takes it All" and I can't seem to hear "Slipping through my fingers" with out a few little tears.
Yesterday I stop by the Crows-landing Church to see what Sandi was up to....{Plus she wanted to borrow a couple of my primary banners.....we like to share =) She had made the cutest ever heart banners.
Anyways, she had the place looking adorable.....take a look at the room.
This was done for their Visiting Teaching meeting- Love their theme.
Pictures-
Invitation given to each of the sisters
Heart tree with the names of all the sisters in the ward- I believe at one point in the meeting they had each sister come up and take her name- and in the end they could see who was missing. I think they talked about the women being the heart and soul of Relief Society.
The tables were adorable- they had a lite dinner before the classes.
Sandi also had some cute heart sleeves for the women to take- fill with a cookie and give to those whom they Visit Teach.
Just thought I would share Sandi's "awesomeness".....seeing as she doesn't have a blog. =)
This month has started off with a little holiday magic.... Planned to perfection by Ruth. First we indulged in a wonderful breakfast that she had prepared. Apple Cinnamon baked French toast with a side of bacon and a hot cider drink.
We also exchanged gifts.....tons of fun.
Loved how Sandi embellished the gift bags she gave us- {warm adorable pajama's, mine were purple polka dot.....and I wore them last night, happy day}
Ruth gave us some Homemade pomegranate jelly- and three silver bracelets. I gave each of the girls the Vintage Wooden Christmas baking gift center.
After breakfast and gifts were exchanged ....it was time for our Omega Nu Christmas Home tour and Luncheon.
This home was right on the creek- fabulous closet and a very cool man cave. This home was dressed to the nines. After this home we had lunch ...then it was on to the other homes.
The second home was filled with lots of natural elements- along with a large ottoman filled with trays of candies.
The third home was very comtemporay. The things I liked about it was the 360 degree fireplace in the main living area ....and lots of modern art by Trey Reed. I thought this tub filled to the top with candles and flower ....a little much....I think it would of been better to see some of the water.
Loved the ceiling in this home and the water feature that went under a sections of the home and came out the other end- you could watch it flow because of a glass walk way.
Most of the home was made of concert- floors , walls and counter tops. Very interesting home.
I loved the white bathroom- viewing crow 's nest and a separate art studio.
We had a most wonderful time... now I'm ready to "Deck my own halls" Fa la la la la la la la!
There lives in each of us {I believe} a secret quest- an undying passion for adventure.
Find the Adventure-
Sandi and Steve came by Saturday for a little visit.....Sandi and I were planning to work on a few Spring Event items, but alas... Adventure was calling.
How it started.....
with a fabulous lunch brought to us by Sandi and Steven- great soup and sandwiches from Fernando's Bistro. At lunch we were talking about what would be fun to do today. We finally decided to just get in the car and just head out..... to "Find the Adventure."
Our First stop-
A rock monument on the side of the road- You know the kind....that have a plaque on them telling you about something in history- this one was about a bridge....nothing too exciting....no adventure waiting there.
Second Stop-
CHÂTEAU du SUREAU or Erna's Elderberry House Restaurant- Dan and I had eaten there before and toured the Chateau and were telling Sandi and Steve about....so we thought we would stop by so they could see the place. We weren't planning to dine- { a meal for two can run upwards and over $300, so we will be saving this place for a special night.} just wanted to walk the grounds and maybe see if Sandi and Steve could get a look at a couple of their fabulous rooms-....They Have a "Villa Sureau" that run $2,950.00 per night- but hey, with that comes a library and 24 hour butler service. =)
The guys dropped us at the door- to see if we could sweet talk our way into a tour....but the minute we walked in.....we were greeted with... Are you with the wedding party? We were truthful stupid and said no...Just image the adventure we could of had at that wedding.
{A wedding party had rented the whole place...holy cow! so no tour.}
They were nice to us and gave us a pamphlet telling us about other people's adventures- using words like- small magical castle, fairy-tale beauty, calming luxury...It evoked fond memories of our visits to Provence...
Thank you very much.
We tried to peek past the curtains to get a look at the wedding....but that didn't happen- we did how- ever have a good laugh about what if--- we did crash the wedding......
Still no adventure.
Third Stop-
Sugar pine Railroad-we thought it would be fun and adventurous to take a night train ride through the pines and fall colored trees, all the while stream from the locomotive was blowing in our hair. {the men were so kind as to offer up their jackets so we would be warm....seeing as we didn't think we would be riding a train in the cold night air when we left the house.}
We pull off the road to enter the area...only to get stopped 20 feet off the road by a wire cable across the road- yep...closed......no adventure here.
Fourth Stop-
By now we needed to use the restroom- so we just pulled off at the next exit- Tenaya Lodge to run in and use the restrooms-
But wait...could this be our Adventure? So we decided to "make like guests" and have some fun-
First, checked out all the little shops at the Lodge.
Second, enjoyed the warm and "toast-ie" fireplace.
Third, go to the restaurant and order only desserts. Had an apple pie to die for.
Fourth, get Hot chocolate to go, so you look like you belong there as you wander around the Lodge-
Fifth- opportunity to crash another wedding...but we resisted.
Sandi and I enjoying our Hot Chocolate in front of the warm beautiful fire-
Ice skating anyone?
I loved the carriage lights and the beamed ceiling.
We wandered the Lodge a little bit more.....then decided to talk to the concierge- watched a slide show about Frazil Ice- cool scary.
Now that would be an adventure to be there in person!
The concierge was so super nice, she spent about 20 minutes with us and gave us all kinds of fun and interesting things to do on a future visit- how fun was that? =) I see a sleigh ride in our future.
When we left the lodge- both Sandi and I agreed we felt like we had just gone on a mini vacation.
Fifth Stop-
Savoury's Restaurant- yes, one more restaurant. We so enjoy this place; we decided to have appetizer's, soup and dessert to share.
Veggie Stacked Portobello
Bacon Wrapped Dates
Red Pepper Hummus with crackers
Bread pudding
Chocolate pie
Veg. sausage soup.
Wonderful setting ; Steve's only disappointment....no fireplace.... =)
Did we find our adventure?
Yes, we realized that adventure is everywhere.... waiting patiently to be unmasked.
We are back from our girls day trip to San Luis Obispo- Remnants of the past show. We had a absolute blast!......
How our time went down-
Friday afternoon we headed to San Luis Obispo....the drive flew by and before we knew it we were there. We checked into our Hotel.....exchanged gifts.....then headed off to the beach for dinner.
Beautiful evening...not too cold....just right.
Have a wonderful dinner at Old Custom House, walked on the beach & dock.....perfect evening.
We stayed up way too late...but had fun talking and even a little pillow fight happened. =)
Saturday morning....headed to the show....just five minutes away.
Great displays and vendors....a little tight with all the people there.... but, ton of fun never- the- less.
One of the things I was looking forward to was meeting a long time blog friend for the first time.
Brooke from Velvet and Linens was there signing her book Patina Style.....what a beautiful women she is.... it was so fun putting a voice to the words.....and yes, she is just an I imaged....kind, humble, gracious .... and tiny. =)
What fun!
More shopping and silly fun. {As some of you may know....I'm dreaming of someday owning a vintage trailer....well Ruby Rose had one at the show....just had to have our picture taken in it.}
After we had walked/ and shopped all we could take.....it was time to head out. We headed back down town SLO for late lunch at Novo. Also spent more time checking out the vintage shops there too.
We decided it was time to head home, when we couldn't fit anymore in the car.....
Poor Sandi had to share the back seat with all our treasures.....good thing she is tiny.
It was a wonderful time spent with good friends- {got home a little later than expected.....talking too much I missed our turn off and drove about an hour before we realized we were going the wrong way. {smile}
Fabulous time! Here's a little look at the treasures I got-
Our bags are ready....all tied up with a pretty pink bow.....now all we need to do is fill them.
I've gathered up a couple of my friends and we are heading off for a super fun time at Remnants of the past.
These bags are divine- Trish from Cottage by Design was super, super, super...helpful.... did I mention that she was super?...well, she was! {because you see, I seem to do everything last minute. {smile}
I totally think Trish understands how I think.....just wouldn't be a girls day without something divine. Thanks Trish!
I think they are even big enough to bring home an antique mirror.... (more smiling}
A Few more little surprises await the girls.... like this and.....
Like these-
I used cupcake bags, tied with a string and a wooden fork for fun. Raspberry and chocolate moose. The cupcake bags have a little platform for the cupcake to sit on....Happy Day. {I am totally obsessed with thinkgarnish.com ......I would love to have a storage cabinet full of all their little touches....just sitting there waiting for a fun time to happen.}
Oh.... If you are going to the Show too...look for 3 ladies with the cutest bags ever..... tied with pink bows....that will be us.
I'm looking forward to meeting a blog friend Brooke, at the show .
Brooke will be there signing her fabulous book....Patina Style....take a look for yourself =)
Had such a fun evening- Steve, Sandi, Dan and me =) Went to Sacramento to see Josh Groban "Straight to you tour".
The cute shoes that Sandi wore....and the amazing stage. So interesting how they made it change just with light through out the concert.
For half of the show he performed on a stage in the middle of the arena- at one point he took questions from the audience.....{they had us text our question to him earlier} one was from a young women, who asked if she could sing with him on stage. Sandi and I were a little worried for her...kind of like her Mom would be....just wanted her to be awesome.....was thinking it would be so cool if she could really sing well....Josh got her up on stage and then asked her what she wanted to sing....she replied anything. {we could tell that Josh was a little worried for her....you could tell he didn't want to embarrass her, just in case she wasn't good....so they sang Happy Birthday to a women in the audience....Oh my goodness, brought the house down....she could sing really well...I think it totally surprised Josh.....but how fun for her....getting to sing with Josh.....Awesome! Josh sang for over 2 hours...so awesome!
Truly couldn't ask for a better way to spend an evening--- friends and awesome concert!
Ruth, Cindy, Sandi and I gathered at the cottage for the start of our annual girls day out. We always have a great time together.
We started the day by exchanging gifts..... its tradition. =)
umbrella with a pink lining sweet & little picture stand- Thanks Ruth
golden fall leaf, gloves, lotions, yummy pumpkin cake & candle....Thanks Sandi
a very "merry" Christmas banner.....Thanks Cindy
I handed out little pink flower pins, lunch bags and antique yellow-ware bowls for breakfast on the go in the truck.
After gifts were exchanged we hopped in the truck and headed out to our first stop....Wisteria in Soquel, but they were closed, so we headed over to another fun antique store to kill some time waiting for wisteria to open up.
Okay, so this store was a blast...just give me one of each.
Our Traditional picture under the "wisteria" at Wisteria.
After Wisteria we stopped at Cafe Brazil for dessert before lunch....no rules....it's girls day out.
Yummy Acai bowl....yum!
(the cafe is really hard to get too....lets just say I'm glad no one was video tapeing us crossing the road....4 ladies in their 50's 40's dodging traffic...crazy, when we left the place we took the long way... back to our car. Oh, man I gave away our age...sorry girls. =)
Our next stop....Monarch trail next to the beach. What a magical place, quiet and beautiful.
Just used my point and shoot camera...if I had one of those fancy camera...I could of gotten some amazing pictures. Very peaceful place....there were signs up all over asking you to keep your voice down.
Next stop- Lunch on the beach-
The weather was just perfect, not too hot or cold.....plus we had a fabulous view.
We sat an visited for awhile...just taking in the great day....
Take a look at some of the things we saw.
I think I'm going to frame these three pictures and use in the cottage blue bath.
After sitting and relaxing for a while it was time to move on to stage four of our day...We ended it by shopping at Home Goods and dinner. I have to say it truly was a beautiful Fall day...a perfect Fall day in California.
