We started what we thought was going to be an awesome week of fun....but alas it will go down in history as the week of sickness.
Conner started it off on Saturday morning by going to urgent care in Santa Maria- “It's Croup." I stayed with him in the hotel room while the others tried to have a little fun driving the razors on the beach..... It was just downhill from there. {We did have an awesome first night on the beach though.}
The kids got to play one day with their cousins....and then it hit and hit hard- Payton, Anna, Carlee, Preston and Shannon....sick.
The rest of the week we just tried to make it one day at a time.....Conner started to feel better....but then Payton added allergies to the vacation of sickness- fever, flu, coughing, croup etc. etc.
Shannon held the record for the highest temperature of 103.5
During moments of reduced fevers...we tried to get out of the house for some air. {I have to say, the kids held on pretty well for being sick....just moving slow and sleeping a lot.}
Payton's comment- “I just need 24 hour energy"
Danny stayed sickness free...but decided he needed to be in on the action too... while at work a heavy wrench fell on his head.
Sam put him back together there and tried to get him to go to the Doctor to stitch it up....but oh no...Can’t do that.... {I am man hear me roar} so, a couple days later....it was a mess. I tried to fix it up...but being half blind and by now the band-aid was mingled with the skin...I had a hard time telling which was what, so.....I had Shannon clean it up. {She had a low grade fever at the time along with puffy eyes, I'm not a very good Mom am I?....thanks Shannon; I would have probably pulled off the wrong thing.}
Midweek- Shannon was feeling somewhat better and we so needed to get out of the house- Conner was pretty much over his, just a persistent cough. Payton and Anna were still dragging a bit,but doing okay. {Poor Payton had the worst allergies the whole week}
What could we do?....Maybe the zoo will help- I rented a little green wagon to pull Anna and Payton around....for when they just couldn't find the engery.
Came home and it hit again- Shannon and Anna are down and Mason is sick now too! And Payton's allergies just made him miserable.
Okay we give up-
Payton's comment to me- Grammer is this what it is like to be old?
We did try to make the best of a bad situation.....I enjoyed the kids, they were so adorable. Conner was an awesome help...he was sick for a couple days....and then spent the rest of the week helping me with the remaining sick ones. =)
He is growing up to be a wonderful young man.....all week he was very helpful, apologetic-{just always wanting to be helpful} very understanding of others need....and taking one for the team.
Shannon and Scott introduced us to a new way to make smores- just use your favorite candy-bar as the "chocolate".....awesome!
A gift of Genealogy- from Shannon
Father and Daughter- Fathers Day June 2012
All week....I kept thinking how blessed I am to have such darling grandchildren.....through it all they were sweet. It was a bummer that everyone was sick...but all wasn't lost. I got to cuddle more, slow down tons, witness a grandsons faith of prayer, and help my daughter a little. Yes, I'm blessed.
A few thoughts that kept resounding in my mind this week-
"Behold, we count them Happy which endure." {can't remember who quoted it, I think Robert D. Hales}
“Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but endure them, for, lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days”{D&C24:8}
Come what may.....Happy Day.
