The In-shell Line-
We do more than just crack the walnuts for meats.... we also size & bag the nuts { Called In-shell... the nut is left in the shell} In-shell nuts are less labor intense.
In-shell nuts typically go International. Which means they are shipped in containers...that are sent to the docks and then sent to final destination by boat.
The whole walnut is dropped in the elevator, then runs across a sizing machine belt, hand sorters then pick out defect. From there the nuts goes up another elevator that drops them in a bin, they then get dispensed by weight into bags....a worker runs the bagged nuts through a sewing machine where they get sealed and labeled. They are then stacked on pallets and wrapped in cellophane ready to go to the warehouse.
The containers are brought in by semi truck-
The fork lift drives inside the container with the bagged nuts....it takes 800 bags to fill a container.
Up to three fork lifts could be loading this container at the same time----to speed things up.
Watching the guys load the containers is wild....best watch your step so you don't get run over. It's almost like watching a choreographed dance. {I think Denver holds the record for fastest container fill.}
The in-shell loading dock is a busy place at the plant....everyday tons of nuts leave the plant.
Just a little look at the in-shell line.
