California October Fall-

Okay, so the temperature dipped into the high 60's....guess that means fall is here?

Everything  has started to turn green...yep, green.   From now until May- our property will look like a big green park; my favorite time of the year. { "le Shed", looks a little sad, usually she has pumpkins in her flower boxes.....sorry "le Shed"  not this year, not enough hours in the day....but I promise you will look stunning for the Spring Event.}

A couple years ago, I propagated a cutting from the last remaining pomegranate tree that Danny's Father had planted.  {They needed to cut down the tree because it was in the way at the Nut House.} But we wanted the tree to live on...hence the propagating.

This year we got our first big Harvest-

Happy Day the Tree lives on.  

Last Spring I planned a new variety of Strawberries....that I really liked. {Strawberries from early may until now....I even picked  a couple today.} But, I did a big NO, No....I didn't write down the name of the plant....so today, when I wanted to fill in the rest of the bed with the same plant....well, that's not going to happen....can't remember the name.   So...I pulled off a dozen or so runners from the original plant...ta-da.   Should fill in the rest of the bed by May. {& it was free}

I also planted 150 bulbs today- I think I might have a contest to see who can guess the number of bulbs that will actually get to grow-

"How many do you think will be left after the gophers get to them?"

Saying that..... two years ago I planted the same amount and not one was left....{ I take that back one grew about 150 feet from where I planted it.}

I swore I would never plant bulbs again..... I've tried everything from in-casing the bulb in wire, coco beans, spices, to things you plant in the ground that makes noise.....this year, I put a little surprise treat in the hole with the bulb....hoping that would help.  Treats are good right? =)

Cottage Blue Glass-

Last Saturday on a treasure hunt I found some blue/green bottles.

Cleaned them up using..... {the flop- flop fizz, fizz type of denture tablets; works wonders.} I also ran them through the dishwasher with a little bleach....just to be safe.

My goal is to do something like this  {thank you very much pinterest.} someday...when I have tons of them....but for now they look like this......

I'm hoping to collect many more before the Spring Event.....I have a grand idea for them. =)

Vintage Enamel Bread pan-

 

One .50 cent enamel bread pan-{from my Saturday Treasure hunt.}

 

 

 

 

 

Put a couple inches of rock on the bottom of the pan, add succulent potting mix.  Then fill with succulents of your choice.  Ending with moss to cover the dirt.  Water lightly. {won't need to be watered next for a month.}

Starburst Mirror...redo

It didn't take much time to change this mirror....just a little paint and about 10 minutes.

Can you spot a couple of the treasures I found Saturday?

I painted the mirror white....and just cleaned up the wooden shoe.I guess it probably would of been just fine left as it was.....I just wanted it to feel a little bit fresher.

So, It went from Brass to this-

Found the mirror and wooded shoe for under $5.....I love secret little places that not many know about yet.  {my lips are sealed =)

One of my goals when we bought this little cottage was to accessorized it with left overs, do overs and lost treasures. {Just for fun} So far everything in the cottage has entered that way {except the sofa and mattress.....this girl has issues about that.....will only use an old sofa if it is leather, came from family or it has a good frame and can be upholstered....just saying there are some things you just can't clean enough for my taste.}

I think spaces have more character and are more interesting when you have had to hunt them down.  The whole kitchen sitting area where the starburst mirror ended up....came in under $50 including the chairs.

Next project, the blue and green bottles....I will have that up later this week.

$25...Treasure hunt-

Yesterday I had plans of trimming roses etc up at CV.....but that got foiled when I had to run errands for the Nut Company- we had a part FedEX to us and I went to pick it up at the airport.

So because it was too late to run up to CV- I decided to grab Heidi and the kids and go on a little treasure hunt.

Our treasure-

• One small table- Heidi's
• 10 blue and green vintage bottles- one with a glass/cork stopper
• one vintage wooden shoe form
• a vintage convex starburst mirror ...with mercy showing through
• one vintage enamel bread pan...I have a fabulous idea how  to use it....sharing next week.
• Total $25

These bottles are soaking in my secret solution..... I plan to share what I will be doing with them next week.

A Little Dreaming and a Prize-

Cleaning up my photo files on my computer today- came across our Family beach trip file.....Totally got me dreaming....  "wishing I was at the beach Mood."

Nut House- Unload...loading-

Much of everyday is spent loading and unloading product.  

Unloading-

Here's a little look at all the loading and unloading.

 

 

 

 

 

 

As soon as the nuts come in....they are loaded in the the fumigation chambers- to kill off any bugs etc.

Mason helps out on the days he has off - sometimes working a double shift one at the Nut company and the other at Save Mart.

  It takes 3 fork lift drivers to move the product from the unloading stations to the fumigation chamber.  They move in and out ...each coming and going at a precise time... if anyone of them came in too fast or slow....I think we would have a crash on our hands. They work together like a little machine.

Through out the day bins of nuts are dumped into  "bin dumpers" {On right}.... the meats then flow up & over belts etc.  Here they will be going through the "Queen Bee" my name for her. Known to the men as the electric eye.  Here much of the damaged product gets kicked out.   More loading and unloading.

"Bin Dumpers" can be found in the sorting area, in-shell area, and product line area.

 On most days, trucks are lined up all around the plant....some dropping off some picking up.

These containers will be going to Germany.

The wisteria is growing great on the dinning room patio.  I think by spring it will nearly cover the whole top of the arbor.   Happy Day

I also painted a little table white- It was just a patio table that was brown- I had a burlap table cloth on it before-

I put this picture in....just because I love this little yellow chair. {smile}

I now have two children in their 30's  .... for heavens sake. =)

Heidi put together a little party for Sam....It was going to be bigger.... but.... I will let Heidi tell that story.
